Kenyan Police intercepted a passenger bus carrying ammunition and suspected government stores along the busy Thika–Garissa Highway. The operation took place at the Kanyonyoo roadblock, where security officers were conducting routine inspections.
The multi-agency security team stopped the vehicle as part of normal procedures. At first, nothing seemed unusual, but officers remained alert and decided to carry out a more detailed search.
The bus, registration number KCW 208A, belongs to Buscar Sacco. It was traveling from Lamu to Nairobi, a route commonly used by public service vehicles transporting passengers and parcels.
During the inspection, officers checked the luggage compartment. Inside the boot, they discovered a blue metallic box that immediately raised suspicion due to its unusual appearance.
Upon opening the box, officers found a cache of ammunition. The items included 19 rounds of 7.62x51mm G3 ammunition and 116 rounds of 7.62x39mm AK-47 ammunition.
Further inspection revealed two empty AK-47 magazines and two machetes. These items increased concern among officers, suggesting the possibility of planned criminal activity.
The box also contained government-related gear, including a full set of GSU ceremonial attire, two combat jackets, jungle green trousers, and a distinctive red beret.
Preliminary investigations showed the parcel had been booked at Mokowe in Lamu County. However, it lacked sender identification, raising serious questions about its origin and intent.
The bus driver, Said Abdulrazak Ahmed Abadalla, and the conductor, Bernard Ochieng Odhiambo, were arrested immediately. They were taken into custody along with the bus and the recovered items.
Authorities moved everything to Kanyonyoo Police Station, where investigations are ongoing. Security agencies are now working to identify those behind the consignment and dismantle any criminal network involved.
