Francis Atwoli has once again secured leadership of the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU-K) after being re-elected unopposed for a sixth term as Secretary-General.
His re-election was confirmed during a delegates’ conference hosted at the Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu, where hundreds of workers gathered for the exercise. About 250 delegates attended the meeting, representing 47 affiliated trade unions that took part in the voting process.
He is expected to continue serving in his post for the next five years. Atwoli has led COTU since 2001. He remains one of the most influential labour leaders in Kenya.
Atwoli has been a central figure in advocating for workers rights and collective bargaining agreements across the country.
Union members praised his efforts in defending workers’ rights. They also credited him for promoting fair wages and better working conditions. The re-election reinforces his long-standing influence in Kenya’s labor movement and highlights continued confidence from the country’s trade unions.
As he begins his sixth term, Atwoli is expected to continue pushing for policies that improve employment opportunities, safeguard workers’ welfare, and strengthen trade unions across Kenya.
